Yenko

Stinger

Shawn Cousins campaigns this "Stingerized" '66 Monza sport coupe. Not actually an original Yenko Stinger, cars like Shawn's are known to Yenko purists as "ringers." The car makes extensive use of Fiberglas panels and is highly modified.

In the background, we see Jim Schardt's genuine Stinger, originally owned by Donna Mae Mims, assistant to Don Yenko.

Shawn Cousins' Stingerized late model coupe

When Donna Mae worked for the Yenko organization, she raced her "Think Pink" Stinger in her spare time. She is still an active Yenko enthusiast, and her good looks, warm personality and impressive racing history make her a favorite at Corvair conventions.

Below, a full view of the car, all buttoned up and ready to rock.

Structural Modifications
1966 Monza body converted by previous owners to "tub car" specifications in compliance with 1993 SCCA Club Racing standards
Chassis squared and straightened by Curtis Wood to correct anomalies in original build
Front frame rails cut at the firewall and replaced with box tubing - everything from firewall forward is custom
Rear frame rails cut at original shock mount location and replaced with box tubing
Rear frame removed (location of original motor mount)
The only original Corvair frame and body work remaining is the roof, floor, firewalls and rocker panels.
All bodywork is fiberglass except for the roof and the grills at the base of the windshield and backlite.
All body panels are easily removed for repair/maintenance in about 5 minutes. (Most of that time is spent trying to find a place to put them down where they will not be stepped on!)
