Rick Norris Crown Corv-8

Here we see the cowl area after panel replacement and the filling of the antenna hole. Rick breathed a sigh of relief and turned his attention to the body's removable panels; the doors and deck lids. At this point, he was hoping to have the car completed in time to show it at the Corvair Society of America (CORSA) national convention scheduled for July, 2000, in Daytona Beach.

Ongoing cowl repair work

The Monza's doors were in good shape and were not re-skinned. The driver's door had a quarter sized hole in the lower front which had been filled with Bondo. Rick cut out to bad area and welded in new metal. He cleaned the inside and outside of the door seams, gave them a good coat of rust inhibiting paint and added a new coat of seam sealer to the outside seams. Insulation material in the doors was in good condition, so it was not replaced. At right, we see how the electric window winder is oriented, mimicking its final placement inside the door.

Power window conversion - orientation

The winder is part of a kit from VPA purchased from Jeg's High Performance and also available from SUMMIT. It is available in both 2-door and 4-door versions and includes a variety of plastic adapters to fit virtually any window winder. Trim caps are provided to fill the hole left in the door panel after removing the manual window cranks. Also included are the required control switches. The flexible drive shaft allows the motor to be placed out of the way of the window lift arms inside the door.

The round hole in the lower part of the door is for speaker mounting. Window and speaker wiring exit the door through reproduction stock Corvair conduit available from Clark's.
