Mike Mann's Corvair-powered retirement project

Retirement project

Mike recently turned 60, and is currently engaged in another Corvair-related project. He spends a lot of his time in his 24' by 30' garage, building his own car, literally from the ground up.

Take one Avenger GT-15 kit car, build in a honeycombed composite floor, add a 300 horsepower turbocharged, intercooled, Corvair engine, fabricate an interior and design and build a suspension to rival a 928 Porsche. Hey—piece of cake—and he'll get to drive it too!

Mike's Kellmark

Something like...

Mike sent along this picture of a finished Avenger just to give us an idea of what they look like.

He mentioned he isn't a big fan of decals and flash, so it's a pretty safe bet the finished project won't look quite like this one.

Mike plans to paint his Avenger Rose Black.

Ford influence

Ford did some things right in the 60s, too. This original Ford GT40 was the car that inspired the Avenger kit car in the first place.

The GT40 made history at Lemans and on a few other road courses around the world. A collector lucky enough to have one of these in his garage is, no doubt, the envy of the neighborhood.
