Daytona 2000 - Corvair Speedweek

The Monza was Corvair's most popular series. Introduced midway through the 1960 model year, it quickly became a favorite. It incorporated all the revolutionary features of the 500 and 700 series economy cars and offered better performance, bucket seats, a higher level of trim, and a convertible.

Having lived through the '50s and '60s, I recall the attention the early Monza convertibles would get. In America, their sporty appeal was rivaled only by the Corvette, and unlike the 'vette, the Monza was affordable. Muscle cars like the Pontiac GTO hadn't been introduced and pony cars like the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro were still years away. It was a magical time to own and drive a Monza.

Now here's a tasteful custom interior treatment! The original gauges, AM radio, glove box door, door panels and upholstery all look terrific, and the small diameter aftermarket steering wheel is color-keyed to the dash and exterior colors of the car. The unit below the radio is an original "must have" Corvair collectible, a tissue dispenser. It has nothing at all to do with runny noses; it's for those overwhelmingly dramatic moments.
